Fed; Record petrol prices in Victoria and Tasmania
Petrol prices have hit record highs in Victoria and Tasmania as allegations of price
fixing in the lead-up to Anzac Day continue.
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says the public has a right to be angry at the pre-Anzac
Day price jump.
And the removal of oil company price support yesterday caused the price to hit $1.03
a litre in Victoria and $1.04 in Tasmania.
Mr HOWARD's also reaffirmed that an inquiry is necessary over variations in petrol pricing.
However, Caltex chairman MALCOLM IRVING has accused the Prime Minister and Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission chairman ALLAN FELS of being billy goats with their
claims of collusion between the four major oil companies -- BP, Mobil, Shell and Caltex-Ampol.
